Don Zientara
Legendary recording engineer and founder of Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, VA; sonic architect of Dischord Records, Minor Threat, Fugazi, Bad Brains, and the Washington D.C. hardcore sound.
The quiet, self-effacing patriarch of Washington D.C. underground music. An electronics specialist and folk musician, Don opened his basement studio to teenagers who had been turned away from traditional studios. With infinite patience and zero pretension, Zientara helped Ian MacKaye, Guy Picciotto, and H.R. forge the sonic identity of Dischord Records and American hardcore.
Warm analog tape saturation, natural acoustic basement intimacy, visceral bass clarity that drives the track forward, and dynamic vocal response that captures physical velocity and political passion without sterile compression.
